Solar Site Assessment

Is your roof perfect for solar? Learn how a solar system helps reduce your carbon footprint, locks in low energy rates, and increases the value of your home.
In order to be a viable location for solar the site should be in direct
sunlight from 9am to 3pm. Solar thermal collectors typically require 70 square feet of unobstructed space on a south facing roof while a PV array would require about the same amount of space per kW of panels installed. Unlike solar thermal collectors, even a small amount of shading will drastically reduce a PV panel’s
performance. Both PV arrays and solar thermal collectors can be ground
mounted if there is not a suitable location on a roof. If a site is partially
shaded or does not face exactly south (+/- 30 degrees is acceptable), Arvak
has tools to find the most suitable location for the array and estimate
the sites potential power output. However, if a location is heavily wooded
it will not be a good location for a solarthermal or a PV system.
